- East Antrim Harriers' Trail Series |
| Judging by his reluctance to put pen to paper, Bert Brady is obviously much too modest a man to brag about his achievements. Of course, as Nat Glenn has always been quick to point out, so few are Bert’s achievements that it’s probably not modesty which prevents him from going into print but embarrassment. Whatever the reason, it wouldn’t be right to let the Club’s success in the recent East Antrim Harriers promoted Trail Series go without mention.

- Greenwood Cup |
 | Bernie Regan collected her second handicap trophy of the season when she held off Ruth Wilson in Tuesday night’s race for the Greenwood Cup. Bernie’s winning time of 79.17 was over eleven minutes faster than the time she posted in last year’s race. Ruth, though starting four and three-quarter minutes behind Bernie, had closed the gap to just over a minute by the time she crossed the finish line in a corrected time of 75.39. Kieran Sharratt, benefiting from an excessively lenient handicap, finished third in 62.50, over two minutes behind Ruth.

- BELFAST MARATHON |
 | Congratulations to Paul Gaskell, who yesterday added his name to Larne AC’s ever-expanding list of sub-three hour marathon runners when he ran yet another PB to finish Belfast in a chipped time of 2.59.15. Paul’s racing and training is very much marathon oriented these days and it was good to see all his hard work paying off.

- SEACOURT |
 | The eighth race in the Club’s Wine Bar sponsored handicap series took place on Tuesday evening. Run over a new course adjacent to The Cliff in Seacourt, the race attracted fifty runners, easily a record turnout for a handicap, with many of them presumably drawn to it because the course was flat(ish) and, at four miles, relatively short, for which we had Nat Glenn to thank. The fact that Nat’s been training regularly on the course for the past twelve months or more and knows every blade of grass on it like the little ginger hairs on the backs of his little pink hands was, he assured us, merely a coincidence.

- Millisle 10k 2010 |
| 5 Larne Athletic Club members took part in the PSC 10K road race in Millisle on Saturday morning. With three 10K's scheduled for Saturday numbers were probably lower than the sponsors had anticipated but that didn't detract from some fine performances and fast times. The course consisted of a single circuit through the Co Down countryside, starting and finishing at the Prison Service College on the outskirts of Millisle.

- SCAWT HANDICAP |
 | It’s been quite a while since we last dipped our collective toe into hill racing and it’s good to report that nothing seems to have changed – it’s still bloody hard work. Nevertheless, thirty-six runners turned out for Tuesday evening’s Scawt Handicap, the sixth in the Club’s Wine Bar sponsored series. Included among the competitors were some members embarking on their first foray over the mountains and it will be interesting to see whether or not they turn out for another hill race after their experiences, although it must be said that all the competitors seemed to enjoy themselves on the night.

In hot conditions and in only his first ultra-long distance event, Justin finished 8th from over 150 competitors and in front of some far more experienced and well respected Ultra runners - an amazing achievement.

- Premier Power Larne Half Marathon |
 | A record entry of 1000 runners took to the streets of Larne last Saturday to compete for honours in the Premier Power Larne Half Marathon. With previous men’s winners absent, the race for 1st overall was wide open. Although none of the countries top stars turned out to race, the depth of field was the best ever. This was evident in the final results with over 120 athlete’s running under 1 hour 30 minutes, a standard seen by many as a very competitive club athlete. Although a bright sunny spring day with perfect running temperature, the coast road had the usual North wind, so the runners had it tough over the first 5 miles. It was Robin Brown who moved clear of the field early, battling the elements on his own, a decision which proved decisive as he went on to take the crown in a time of 1 hour 12 minutes and 33 seconds. Robin, who runs for North Down, was relatively unknown before the start of the race as he has been racing in England where he attends university. Simon Taylor of Abbey AC was next just 20 seconds behind holding off a late challenge from Robin’s North Down team mate Francis Marsh.

- Binevenagh Mountain Race |
 | The organiser’s had warned of snow – lots of it - and only decided to proceed with the race after an early morning course inspection. However, standing in sunny conditions in a snow-free car-park prior to the race, it was hard to predict what would be in store for runners at the top. As it turned out, once the runners left the shelter of the forest on the first climb they entered what felt like another world with up to 6 inches of snow around the normally runable base of the cliffs.

- BALLYGALLY HANDICAP |
 | The call of Ballygally on Northern Ireland’s very own Riviera coast, where the pewter sea meets a pewter beach and seabirds hang in a pewter sky (the good thing about writing about Ballygally is that you don’t have to waste too much time searching for adjectives) was too strong to ignore for the twenty-eight runners who turned out for the fifth race in Larne Athletic Club’s 2009/10 Wine Bar sponsored handicap series. Unfortunately, the louder call of a friend’s stag night celebrations on Friday was even harder to ignore so James Brown was in no fit state to defend the title he won so impressively last year.

- GLENARM HANDICAP 2010 |
 | The Earl of Antrim’s estate in Glenarm once again played host to the Club’s annual cross country outing, the fourth race in our Wine Bar sponsored 2009/10 handicap series. Run over the same fields as last year, the course was virtually mud-free, but three weeks of hard frost meant that underfoot conditions were far from ideal, so it was with some trepidation that the sixteen runners foolhardy enough to commit themselves to the race took their places at the start. In fact, one runner was so concerned about his delicate legs that he almost tiptoed round the course, looking, in the process, about as elegant as an elephant in a tutu dancing a scene from the Nutcracker.
