LARNE RUNNERS ENJOY THE OMAGH HALF MARATHON |

A total of 5 runners from Larne AC made the long trek to Omagh on Saturday to take part in the Northern Ireland Half Marathon Championship. There was another record turnout with over 1100 hundred finishers in this very well organised race.
Despite a heavy shower in the run up to the start of the race, the runners were relieved to start in dry but breezy conditions. After a lap of the town centre the course wound its way through the very undulating countryside around Omagh. At the halfway point only 2 seconds separated Larne runners Justin Maxwell and Sammy Drummond. Justin who was running the race as a training run for the forthcoming 39 mile Connemara Ultra, pulled away in the 2nd half of the race to finish in 39th place in a time of 1.19.51. Sammy Drummond running his 2nd half marathon in a week had another strong performance and finished close behind in 1.21.15.
Paul Gaskell is currently in training for the Belfast Marathon on 3rd May and produced an excellent performance with a time of 1.22.32. This must surely auger well for Paul’s hope of breaking the elusive 3 hour barrier in Belfast. Paul Tilson, also running his 2nd half marathon in a week, was the next Larne runner home. Paul produced another strong performance and finished in 1.32.28. The only Larne AC female representative in the race was Heather Baxter and she was delighted to take 2 minutes off her previous time, finishing in 1.52.42.
