Race Over The Glens
Larne Athletic Club retained the team prize and took home a trio of Veteran’s prizes at the Race Over The Glens in Glenariff Forest park on Saturday afternoon. The race, promoted by Ballymena Runners had been called off twice before due to adverse weather conditions, but this time around runners were able to enjoy warm sunshine during the race and afterwards.

As the race started, Billy Thompson was first to show for the club chasing the leaders down into the glen. Billy eventually finished 10th in a time of 37:58. Nat Glenn reserved his strength on the steep climb before powering away to finish first for Larne in 6th place with a time of 36:40 and take the prize for first Vet 40. Andy Gregg, in his third race of the week was next in 7th, just ahead of Bernard Brady in 8th, while Justin Maxwell, with last week’s Ultra-marathon still in his legs, finished 9th. John Agnew, in 13th, won the Vet 50 category for the third race in a row – quite a habit - and with six to count brought the team home to win with 52 points.

Kieran Sharratt returned to competition, winning the Vet 55 category with a time of 39:40, while Beverley Gaston, in her first race over the course, finished well up the field in 39th place. Peter Marrs, in only his second race for the club, also performed well, and demonstrated that he has much promise for the future.
