Millisle 10k 2010 |
|
5 Larne Athletic Club members took part in the PSC 10K road race in Millisle on Saturday morning. With three 10K's scheduled for Saturday numbers were probably lower than the sponsors had anticipated but that didn't detract from some fine performances and fast times. The course consisted of a single circuit through the Co Down countryside, starting and finishing at the Prison Service College on the outskirts of Millisle.
1st home for Larne was Craig Hutchinson in a time of 33.54.
Craig has been in sparkling form of late and it was no surprise when he broke away with the leading pack early in the race.
He stayed in contention and on the heels of the two leading runners right to the very finish and should be highly pleased with his 3rd place finish.
Justin Maxwell was also in the leading group early on but the rigours of his recent ultramarathon probably took its toll and Justin finished 5th overall in a time of 34.34.
Next home for Larne was Nat Glenn. Despite starting conservatively Nat grew stronger as the race progressed and finished strongly in 6th place in a time of 34.47.
Bernard Brady and Billy Thompson were next home for the club.
Both put in very fine performances finishing in 8th and 9th places respectively showing that there is strength in depth in the Larne club at present, particularly in the veteran category's.
Indeed Billy's finishing place secured him a category win in the Vet 45 category and his resurgent form of late suggests that there is more to come.
Although not confirmed at the time of writing it is expected that Larne AC, with 5 runners finishing in the top 10 also won the team prize.
