East Antrim Harriers' Trail Series |
|
Judging by his reluctance to put pen to paper, Bert Brady is obviously much too modest a man to brag about his achievements. Of course, as Nat Glenn has always been quick to point out, so few are Bert’s achievements that it’s probably not modesty which prevents him from going into print but embarrassment. Whatever the reason, it wouldn’t be right to let the Club’s success in the recent East Antrim Harriers promoted Trail Series go without mention.
In total, eighteen members of the Club competed in at least one of the four races which made up the series, with Bert, Bernie Regan, Beverley Gaston and James Robinson running in all four. Paula McAllister, Sammy Drummond and Damian McNeill completed three of the four races, with Ryan Maxwell, Adele Neill, Ruth Wilson, Rhonda Brady, Rhonda Montgomery and Andy Gregg completing two and Nat, Justin Maxwell, John Agnew, Alvyn McQuitty and Greg Lavery running in one.
In the overall Female Open category, Paula and Beverley finished first and second respectively, with Paula winning the category in each of the three races she competed in and Beverley completing a Club clean-sweep by taking victory in the remaining race. Bernie was an even more decisive winner of the overall Female Vet 50 category, winning her category in all four races. As the only female Larne AC members to run in the required minimum three scoring races this effectively represented a 100% success rate for the Club.
In the men’s overall categories, Sammy picked up first prize in the Male Vet 35 category with three first category places out of three, while Bert, despite his advanced years, took home the prize for first Male Vet 40 by clocking up three first places and a second in his category.
In addition to the above, Nat won the male Vet 40 category in the only race he competed in, John chalked up a Male Vet 50 category win in his only race, Adele was the first Female Vet 35 in both of her races, while Rhonda M was the first Female Vet 40 finisher in one of her two races. Although category success may have eluded the remaining Club members they nevertheless achieved a number of second and third place finishes in their various categories.
Congratulations to all concerned for maintaining the Club’s excellent record in this race series.
